Hand-colored ninth-plate daguerreotype in brass frame of Susan Woodward Haven Emerson (1807-1868). She was the wife of Ralph Waldo Emerson's brother, William Emerson (1801-1868). The photograph was taken by Charles R. Rees of New York, N.Y., ca. 1854-1855.
